A cast concrete bench, patterned after an old Japanese design, rests off camera right, at the foot of the pond. This placement of the bench forces visitors to sit with their backs to the sun. The view is to the East while the sun shines from behind, illuminating the details of the waterfall, the fish, the water plants and surrounding stone enclosure. Besides, the warm sun feel good on one's back.
We do suggest that, whatever your plans or your budget call for, consider the largest possible installation for your pond and it's surroundings. Ponds are a timeless attraction, and will likely draw more that one person at a time when you entertain outdoors. More pond can result in less (or no) grass to cut.
We've never met a client who later wished for a smaller pond.
At minimum, plan on at least a 5-by-5 foot water surface to allow some reflection from the sky. Anything less will be a disappointment.
